Panasonic GF1

Well let me tell you something. Micro four thirds cameras rule!!
I recently purchased a Panasonic GF1. A wonderful camera in the micro four thirds family. These types of cameras combine all the best characteristics of compacts and SLRs. The compactness of small cameras and the bigger sensor (not as big as SLRs) and the interchangeable lenses of SLRs. The quality of the images is just stunning. Very controlled noise along with accurate colour reproduction and really nice depth of field. As you can see I really enjoy this camera!

It's dark out

Wow!
It's been a while since I last posted!!!
Here's something new I've been messing with for the past few months.
Right from the start I knew I wanted to create an image that is open to interpretation. To somehow capture a moment frozen in time. A big inspiration for this image has been Gregory Crewdsons' photographs. He is the king of the dark, the subtle, tapping into the viewers psyche.
For this image I used my usual workflow. Cinema 4d for the base mesh of the character and all the other models, and Zbrush for the detailing of the main character. The final render is all cinema with lots of different things going on at the same time. HDRI, Ambient occlusion, hair, a lot of shader work and the list goes on and on.... I guess that's why it took 35+ hours to render....
The big challenge though was the modelling of the train. I wanted a specific kind of train which I couldn't get any blueprints for. So I had to basically take lots of pictures for it and adjust everything by eye.
Don't forget to visit the portfolio part of the site to see the final crop and render since this is only a detail of the final image.

The Dude

This is one of my favorite images because it is actually based on a real person.
I was on the tube when I saw this man sitting a few seats away from me. So I did what 16 year olds do when they see a beautiful woman up close. They take her picture with their phones! Only this wasn’t a beautiful woman and I’m not 16!
But I just had to do it!
I used Cinema 4d for the base mesh and after that I exported the whole thing to Zbrush. When the sculpting was done I imported back to cinema to add the hair and make the final render.
Cheers!

New work. At last!

It's been a while since I had any personal work done but that can easily happen when you are working full time for commercial projects. When you are drained physically and mentally every day the only thing you want to do, is to just phase out and stare at the wall for hours... (now you know what I'm doing after work....) The image below is a result of a few days away from work. No clients, no deadlines. If only life could be so good!!!

Prince and site building...

Let me tell you one thing and one thing only. Prince ROCKS!! Yeah I know how it sounds but I can't say anything else about a guy who creates a song about someone wanting to jack off someone else!!! Let me explain myself... I usually put some music on when I'm working. I was working on this site when the amazing "Jack U Off" song came up! At first I wasn't paying attention to the song when at some point I heard a whole chorus saying I'll jack U off, jack U off I'll jack U off, jack U off I'll jack U off. And then I started to really pay attention to the lyrics! So here is a sample of the most amazing lyrics in the world!

If U're looking 4 somewhere 2 go
Girl, I'll take U 2 a movie show
We can sit in the back and I'll jack U off

If U're tired of the masturbator
Little girl, we can go on a date, uh
And if U like, I'll jack U off

I only do it 4 a worthy cause
Virginity or menopause
U'll have an instant heart attack if I jack U off

New look!

Well it took nearly a year to sit myself down and redo the whole site... But at least it's here!! It's structured in a way that is easily up-datable so be sure to visit the site often! The gallery section will be revised soon. I wanted to bring the new site up, as soon as possible so you might notice quite a few of my old projects there. Lately I've been working on quite a few different projects that I want to share but they'll have to wait till they're completed....
That about wraps things up! Talk to you soon!
